The first step towards a career in the skies is deciding to pursue your dreams. The decision can be scary and should be well-thought-out, as flight school is a big commitment. Due to the immensity of this decision, many people find themselves debating whether or not they should become a pilot for years, if not decades. While everyone has different reasons for why they do or do not ultimately decide to pursue flight training, there is one thing that universally aids everyone in making this decision. That is taking a Discovery Flight.
Discover Flight for Yourself
A discovery flight (sometimes referred to as an intro-flight or admission flight) is a short flight where you will take to the skies in a flight school plane with a flight instructor. The exact details of each discovery flight will vary between flight schools, but in this article, we will discuss the details of discovery flights offered by Axiom Aviation.

Axiom’s Discovery Flights
On a discovery flight, a prospective student will fly with an instructor for roughly one hour for the cost of one flight hour. The flight instructor will typically handle takeoff and landing, but the student will do most of the flying under the direction and supervision of the instructor. The flight will remain within the general vicinity of the airport, and the exact details of the flight can be discussed between the student and instructor. If anyone wants to fly for more than one hour, they may do so if it is coordinated in advance. Any additional flight time will be charged at the existing flight hour rate.

Note: People may choose to do an intro flight even if they are not interested in pursuing flight training, as flying is an experience everyone should be able to enjoy.
Most individuals will find flight to be an extraordinary experience and will leave the plane with increased determination to pursue flight training. However, on occasion, some people learn that flying may not be a good fit for them on their discovery flight. This can be for a variety of reasons, but the most common tends to be that they do not enjoy flying as much as they thought they would. Regardless, we highly recommend that individuals interested in flight training do a discovery flight, as it is often one of the deciding factors that help determine their career path.
