One of the last ratings Axiom students obtain is their Certified Flight Instructor Instrument Rating (CFII). The CFII rating is often overlooked and considered to be superficial by many. However, in reality, the CFII rating can be essential for those who plan to work and build flight time as a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI).
Why Become an Instrument Instructor
All flight instructors wishing to give instrument training must have their CFII rating. While those who only have their CFI rating may give training under Visual Flight Rules (VFR), they will be limited as they will not be able to instruct their student to completion.

Axiom Aviation's Zero to Hero program includes CFII training, enabling all Axiom graduates to give both VFR and IFR training. Due to this, all Axiom instructors can instruct Private Pilot Certificate (PPL), Instrument Rating (IFR), and Commercial Pilot Certificate (CAX) students. Many flight schools employ CFIs who do not possess their CFII rating. While there is nothing inherently wrong with this, it does mean that students paired with these instructors will need to be reassigned to a new instructor for their instrument training. Axiom Aviation does not have this issue as all Axiom instructors possess both their CFI and CFII ratings.
The Instrument Rating allows a pilot to fly in Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC), which means that a pilot must rely solely on their instruments to navigate and maneuver the aircraft. While pilots become proficient at flying under IFR regulations during their instrument training, most do not become highly proficient until they instruct instrument students. This helps CFIs not only become better at flying small planes in IFR conditions, but it also prepares them to fly more advanced aircraft in IMC later in their careers.
How to Obtain Your CFII
The CFII rating is one of the shortest and cheapest ratings at Axiom Aviation. Once a student has obtained their CFI, they will immediately begin CFII training. Students familiar with Axiom Aviation's aircraft and the airport's approaches will be able to do their CFII in one to two weeks. This entails several days of ground and flight instruction. These students typically complete their CFII checkride in under 10 flight hours.

Students who have not flown at Axiom before can expect an accelerated program that will typically be completed in one to two weeks. These students will also do a few days of ground but will likely need more flight hours to be prepared for the checkride. Despite the additional hours, it is doubtful that the student will need to do more than 10 flight hours. Once their instructor thinks they are ready, they will be signed off and take their checkride. Regardless of whether a pilot's first experience with Axiom is CFII training or not, it is unlikely that the course will take more than 2 weeks, so long as a checkride is secured and their written test is done.
