Throughout the first days of flight training, students are frequently overwhelmed by the vast amount of knowledge and skills that they will be required to master. When viewed all at once, becoming a pilot can seem like an insurmountable hurdle. However, like most professional career development programs, a syllabus has been designed and implemented to equip students with the tools and resources to overcome these challenges.
The Importance of a Syllabus
For a student pilot to obtain additional pilot certificates and ratings, they must first meet certain requirements and master certain concepts as outlined in 14 CFR Part 61. These requirements may be met at a flight school or with an independent Certified Flight Instructor (CFI). Each of these methods has its respective pros and cons, but both will utilize a syllabus to help their students succeed.
Independent CFIs will typically utilize one of a handful of third-party ground training programs (refers to all pilot training taught on the ground). These training programs can be effective and generally offer a useful syllabus. However, it should be noted that these syllabi are not the most effective as they are inflexible and only apply to ground instruction. Most flight schools will utilize a proprietary syllabus that incorporates ground and flight instruction.

This type of integrated flight training can be obtained through highly-experienced independent CFIs, but it takes years for these CFIs to discover and implement these practices in a way that flows well with a third-party ground training course. Making this the exception instead of the rule.
The majority of students who train with independent CFIs will be required to do ground training on their own with sparing assistance from their instructor. While the concepts they learn on the ground will eventually be taught in the air by their CFI, the time gap between ground and flight instruction frequently leads to poor retention of information.
Axiom Aviation’s Syllabus
Here at Axiom Aviation, we utilize a syllabus that is tried and true. Developed by one of Axiom’s co-founders, the flight training syllabus on WifiCFI has been optimally designed to ensure maximum knowledge and skill retention. By focusing on integrated flight training, Axiom instructors are able to offer an unparalleled flight training experience as all concepts covered in ground training will be taught and reviewed in the air in a timely manner.

This teaching style is present throughout the entirety of the syllabus. A good example can be seen in the maneuver lessons. By following the syllabus, a student will first be introduced to a new maneuver during their independent studies on WifiCFI. Shortly after this (typically the next day), the student will be taught this material in person with their CFI. This allows the material to be taught in a variety of ways as the instructor can customize the instruction to better match the students' learning style. Following this instruction, the student will have the opportunity to learn and practice these maneuvers many times in flight until they reach a high level of proficiency.
Due to Axiom Aviation's flexible course offerings, its training syllabus is perfectly suited to adaptation, enhancing a student's flight training while consistently increasing short-term and long-term concept retention.
